About Carney’s Auto Repair

Dave Carney has been interested in all things mechanical since he can remember. He started out by fixing bicycles, then motorcycles and later, fixing cars. He has serviced vehicles since 1985.

In 1999, Dave and Lisa Carney opened Carney’s Auto Repair Service on Iowa Street in Uniontown, Pa. Today, Carney’s is a full-service automotive shop specializing in automotive diagnostics. Dave and his staff of skilled mechanics are qualified to perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on all European, Asian and Domestic vehicles.

Automobiles have been a part of Dave since his childhood. His dad owned a speed shop, then an auto repair shop. Some of Dave’s earliest memories are of him climbing tire piles of M&H drag slicks and stacks of Cragar Wheels.

Dave’s first real job was with NAPA’s Auto Parts at the age of fourteen. He worked as a stock boy and evolved there through high school, college and trade school. After attending his freshman year at West Virginia University, Dave decided a future as a mining engineer was not for him. He missed turning wrenches and the challenge of diagnosing and repairing vehicles. So, the next fall, he enrolled in

Vale Technical Institute, Blairsville, Pa. He graduated at the top of his class and earned an Associate Degree in Auto Techniques and Management. After graduation, he went to work for the family business in Uniontown, Pa. for ten years.

Dave became an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certified Master Technician in Advanced Engine Diagnostics at the age of only 19. At the time, he was the third youngest mechanic in the country to earn this designation.

A member of the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers since 1999, Dave is a former AASP Mechanical Division Director. He is also a regular columnist for Pennsylvania Automotive & Insider News, an official publication of the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of Pennsylvania.

In his spare time, Dave reads anything about the current trends in automotive repairs and regularly attends training seminars.

Dave and Lisa and their two children; Michael and Ashleigh, reside in New Salem, Pa.

EXPERTISE RIGHT HERE AT HOME!

__________

There’s no reason to take your foreign vehicle all the way to Pittsburgh or to a dealer for repair. Carney’s Auto Repair has decades of experience and is right here in Fayette County. We provide quality services and a great value!

WHAT WE MEAN BY “DEALER REPAIR ALTERNATIVE”

Why Choose Carney’s Auto Repair Service Instead of a Dealership for Your Repairs?

Experienced...

Have you ever taken your vehicle in for repair and wondered who is actually going to work on your car? Are they qualified and experienced to perform the repairs my vehicle needs? Are they going to be respectful with the way they treat your vehicle?

At Carney’s you can actually see our technicians repairing your vehicle. You can speak directly to the technician about any of your vehicle needs, which can help eliminate confusion or misinterpretation.

As an independent repair garage, we are the owners and have a vested interest in doing good work and keeping our customers happy. Our success is directly determined by our quality and customer satisfaction.

Simply put, If your not happy, we’re not happy…

Affordable...

Many people are under the false assumption that if your car is still under warranty you have to take it to the dealer for maintenance or the manufacturer will void your warranty. Especially if you own a Mercedes- Benz, BMW, Jaguar, Porsche, Lexus, Volvo, Audi, Honda, or Toyota- you might feel you have no choice but to take it to the dealer to find someone qualified to work on it. However, we are the local, experienced alternative. We can help!

The Magnuson-Moss Act is a federal law that states that the consumer has the right to choose who performs maintenance on their vehicle and the vehicle manufacturer cannot deny warranty coverage as long as the maintenance is performed by qualified technicians and materials meet original equipment standards.

We have the specialized training and specific tools that are above standards so that your warranty coverage is secure and the job is done well!

Local...

You don’t have to take your vehicle to a local dealer, or travel Pittsburgh or Greensburg to find qualified technicians to perform quality repairs and maintenance.

Working with Carney’s Auto Repair is an excellent value, and will provide savings over dealership repair pricing. Sometimes quality diagnostics and repairs may cost a little more initially, but will save you money down the road.

Car Care Tips

When Should I have My Oil Changed?
We recommend that conventional oil should be changed every 3,000 miles.
Synthetic oil should be changed every 5,000 miles.
Tune Ups...When and Why?

Tune-ups ensure optimal performance, fuel economy and extend an engine’s life.

Back in the early days, tune-ups were necessary every 6 months or so. Weather conditions and fuel quality had a huge effect on a vehicle’s performance and dependability.

Today’s vehicles have benefitted dramatically from things like fuel injection, high energy ignition and computer controls. With those advances, vehicles have become much more dependable but they still need periodic maintenance to keep them running their best and to prevent costly repairs down the road.

Scheduled maintenance varies widely from manufacturer to manufacturer. We can provide a scheduled service plan based on your specific vehicle and mileage. That way, your vehicle gets what it needs, when it needs it!

Tire Tread Tips

Most tires have tread wear indicator bars molded into the tread. When the tread is worn down, a solid bar of rubber across the width of the tread becomes visible, which means it is time to replace the tire. You can also place a penny into a tread groove with Lincoln’s head upside down and facing you. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, it’s time for new tires.

Items to Keep in Your Vehicle
Jumper cables
Small tire inflator/compressor
First Aid kit
Tire pressure gauge
Basic tools: Pliers, adjustable wrench, screwdriver
Good lug wrench: 4-way or torque multiplier
Flashlight
Wet/dry matches
Emergency blanket
Duct tape??? Yes!
Sand or kitty litter
Non-perishable food
Cell phone
Supply of any regularly needed or taken medications
Your Vehicle's Belts and Hoses

Sooner or later your vehicle’s engine accessory drive belts and coolant hoses will dry out and crack. Over time, belts and hoses lose their ability to properly expand and contract.

A sudden malfunction of these relatively inexpensive, but very important parts can result in costly consequences. Potential problems can be detected with a simple visual inspection. Regular inspections, coupled with timely belt and hose replacement in accordance with your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations, will help protect against expensive repairs.

Brakes

Regular brake inspections should be part of your vehicle’s ongoing maintenance. In fact, brakes should be inspected at least once a year or if you experience any of the following:

  • Low or soft brake pedal
  • Hard brake pedal
  • Pedal vibration
  • Grabbing or pulling
  • Brake warning light that stays on
  • Continuously squealing or grinding brakes

Automatic Maintenance Reminders

You can sign up to receive a custom service schedule via the Car Care Council. They will email you about any recalls, when your service is due and more! Check them out here!

You Can Aim Your Headlights!

Did you know that many times driving at night can be improved by evening-up or repointing your headlights more accurately than they are set from the factory? Check your owner’s manual on how to do this- and be prepared to try adjusting them a few times before you get them right where you want them. It will be worth the effort for you to have more night illumination! Here’s an article to help you further from Popular Mechanics. Or, we can adjust them for you!
